Nick is an incredibly accomplished fellow ITP alum who was recently diagnosed with an advanced state of prostate cancer. Friends/fellow alums have built a website where others can send him well-wishes, donate money or airline miles or just extend moral support. Please help. Help Nick West
For those of you who have not had the pleasure of knowing Nick here
is the short list of his accomplishments:
- Nick West attended ITP from 1985-1987.
- He returned to ITP as an adjunct professor in 1994, managing research projects for Viacom and Verizon: revamping the interactive television program Yorb!, and developing a concept demo with Tom Igoe of one of the first mobile geoannotation projects, Neighborhood Web.
- As a visiting scholar with the National Fine Arts Museum in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Nick designed traveling museum exhibits
utilizing GPS technology. - Nick recently worked with Proboscis Studios, a cultural think tank in London, on designing Urban Tapestries — an experimental software platform for knowledge mapping and sharing in the city. ( www.urbantapestries.net )
- He has presented research results for his projects at Ars Electronica, SIGGRAPH, and other conferences throughout Europe, North America and Asia.
- Nick is studying towards a PhD in Cultural Studies from
Goldsmiths College, London, on the impact of locative technologies on our group feedback with the urban environment.
